Aloha

They reach across the breadth of pond
To sing their harmonizing song
The rest of us sit in dumb wonder
When laughing’s done, navels to ponder
For like they do and love they might
And love we do but not always like
Not in the way that lovers do
When days are short and love is new
So swollen, red and flush with juice
Through bitten lips the tongues seduce
And when the newness is undone
Our hearts are dried, our souls are wan
Until remoistened by the rain
Of tears and joy and cries of pain
Oh, love! Oh, pain!
Oh, tears again!
Oh, love!
